Record Production Achieved
BMW Group Plant Regensburg has reached a remarkable milestone, producing 356,901 vehicles in 2025, marking its highest production level in 40 years.

Historical Context
Since commencing operations in 1986, the plant has manufactured a staggering 8.7 million vehicles. Armin Ebner, the Plant Director, noted, “This record production not only sets a new benchmark in our history but also contributes significantly to the BMW Group’s total output of over one million vehicles in Germany for the second consecutive year.”

Focus on Competitiveness
Continuous improvement has been central to the plant’s success. Ebner emphasised that ongoing efforts to enhance competitiveness are key. The facility has managed to reduce production costs by over 25% since 2019 through various efficiency measures.

Embracing Digitalisation
Digitalisation plays a crucial role in boosting productivity. The introduction of artificial intelligence for surface processing and quality control, alongside a cloud-based traffic management system for parts supply, has transformed operations. As of early 2025, new vehicles are capable of navigating autonomously from the assembly line to the loading area.

Electrification Progress
In 2025, more than 150,000 electrified vehicles—either fully electric or plug-in hybrids—rolled off the production line. The BMW X1 was the standout model, with over 266,000 units produced, followed closely by the BMW X2 at over 90,000 units.

Production and Employment Growth
The plant was initially established with a commitment to produce 400 vehicles daily and create 3,500 jobs. As operations expanded, production capacity and workforce numbers increased significantly. By 2025, the workforce had grown to approximately 9,000 employees, including around 380 apprentices.
