Hyundai is set to make a splash with the arrival of the Ioniq 3 N, an all-wheel-drive sports car that promises to shake up the electric segment. Drawing inspiration from the Concept Three, this compact could become the icon of zero-emission performance.
An anticipated announcement
That Hyundai is preparing the Ioniq 3 is no surprise. Rumours of its arrival have been circulating for some time, but what we did not know is that a high-performance N version would also be on the agenda. The announcement was made during Hyundai Motor Europe’s Annual Press Conference in Frankfurt, where the brand presented its financial results for 2025 while outlining the major lines for the coming years.
What could it look like?
In 2026, Hyundai plans to unveil five new models, among which is the highly anticipated Ioniq 3. Enthusiasts have long been wondering: what will this electrifying compact look like?

The first information hints at a high-performance version, similar to the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 N. The “N” symbolises not only performance but also the connection to the legendary Nürburgring circuit, where models from the sports division are rigorously tested. For the Ioniq 3, the chosen platform will be the E-GMP “small”, a different variant already used by models such as the Kia EV3, and with front-wheel drive, of course.
As for its dimensions, a length of approximately 4.3 metres could be estimated, with a power that could shake the asphalt. All-wheel drive also seems likely, thanks to the addition of a second motor on the rear axle. And while the full technical specifications are yet to be confirmed, a thermal engine simulation system and a virtual automatic gearbox are already in the plans.

The power of emotions
While we await the technical features of the Ioniq 3 N, it is already evident that its birth represents a turning point for Hyundai. Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Europe, highlighted the importance of this model in their strategy:
“In the past, we have produced sports cars at relatively affordable prices. I think of the Hyundai i20 N, which has been a great success. Today, our high-performance philosophy is perfectly embodied by the Ioniq 5 N and the Ioniq 6 N: they are fantastic cars, but their prices are a bit high. We need to adapt this concept to a less exclusive market segment.”

Hyundai, although relatively young in the market, seeks to establish its identity with models of high emotional value. The Ioniq 3 N has all the attributes to seduce lovers of strong emotions.
A promising future
While the technical details are still to be defined, it is clear that the Ioniq 3 N presents itself as a formidable rival in the world of electric sports compacts. With its design inspired by the Concept Three and its expected performance, it could quickly find its place alongside the best in the segment.
Hyundai’s rise in the realm of electric performance is commendable. The development of an affordable sports compact could redefine consumer expectations regarding electric vehicles. For those who love speed and adrenaline, the Ioniq 3 N could become the next holy grail.
