The Formula 1 winter tests in Bahrain have been the scene of unexpected twists. While Ferrari seems to have found its rhythm, Mercedes is struggling with technical issues, foreshadowing a season full of surprises. The teams are preparing for a year marked by significant regulatory changes, and these initial tests give us a glimpse of the battles to come.
Antonelli the fastest but least on track!

Kimi Antonelli had no competition in this first testing session in Bahrain. With an impressive lap time, the Mercedes driver managed to stand out, but beware, he has not run as much as his competitors. In fact, despite his best time of the week, Antonelli fell victim to several technical issues in his W17, which forced him to stay in the pits longer than expected.
The two best performances of the weekend were signed by Mercedes, which managed to draw attention with two lap times below 1’34. But behind this leading duo, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, and Haas are fighting to make their way into the top 10. This ballet of machines promises!
On the other hand, it is interesting to note that seven drivers have surpassed the symbolic barrier of 200 laps during these tests, including Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, and Lewis Hamilton. In contrast, Aston Martin finished at the bottom of the standings, struggling with cooling issues in its Honda engine under the scorching heat of Sakhir.
Ferrari metronomic, Mercedes trailing

Lewis Hamilton, driving for Ferrari this season, has been impressive during the tests. Despite significant regulatory changes, the Scuderia has shown remarkable reliability, confirming the good impressions left during private tests. The team has also surpassed 4000 km covered in six days of testing, a performance that puts it in a good position to start the season.
At the same time, McLaren and Williams have also shone, reaching or exceeding 2000 km. This is excellent news for McLaren, which had been absent from the tests in Catalonia. However, Mercedes, which had dominated in Barcelona, found itself second to last in this table. Its first two days were marked by technical failures that raised concerns.
The accumulated delays for Aston Martin are evident: with just over 1000 km on the counter, the team looks pale compared to its rivals and may struggle to make up for lost time in the coming weeks.
The Honda engine needs to breathe… but also to run!

The engine report during these tests is clear: the Honda engine has run the least so far. With four teams present in Sakhir, Mercedes has naturally recorded the most kilometres, exceeding 13,000 km accumulated throughout the pre-season.
However, it is Ferrari that impresses with an average of over 2000 km per team powered by the Italian brand. Audi, although it has only one committed team, performs honourably and remains just below Mercedes’ average, while Red Bull Ford struggles to keep pace.
But it is clear that Honda must intensify its efforts. Not only does its engine show a delay in terms of reliability, but it also suffers from a lack of testing that could cost them dearly when the lights go green during the race.
Red flags in Bahrain Test 1
Red flags appeared frequently during these tests, reflecting the technical problems faced by several teams. Whether to perfect the single-seaters or to resolve unexpected failures, these interruptions have almost become the trademark of the session.
While some teams have taken advantage of these tests to fine-tune their strategy, others have had to face significant challenges. This scenario reminds us that every lap on the track is valuable and that teams must be ready to react quickly to unforeseen events.
These tests leave us anticipating a season where reliability and preparation will be essential to expect to shine on the starting grid. Teams will need to learn from these days in Bahrain to approach the competition with a calm mind and a perfectly tuned machine.
