Pecco Bagnaia keeps smiling, even though the rain has disrupted his tests in Sepang. With around twenty laps under his belt, the Ducati rider downplays the technical difficulties, aware that such inconveniences are part of the testing process. Balancing optimism and pragmatism, he prepares for a promising season.
A day in conflict
The second test day in Sepang proved somewhat frustrating for Pecco Bagnaia. With only a small number of laps completed, the Italian rider saw his plans disrupted by unpredictable weather. The rain interfered with the schedule, making the track slippery and complicating the riding sessions. This morning, a technical issue had already forced him to limit his time on the track.
A positive outlook on uncertainties
Despite these setbacks, Bagnaia keeps his head high. He knows that such incidents are common during tests, which are crucial for evaluating new parts. “We had a bit of bad luck due to the conditions,” he explains. “But it’s part of the nature of testing to encounter technical problems. When we test new parts, some things may work differently, and sometimes it’s not the right direction.” His words resonate like an ode to patience and adaptability.
Regaining his sensations
For Bagnaia, these tests are also an opportunity to regain lost sensations. The year 2025 has been challenging, marked by difficulties in mastering his Ducati. “Yesterday was a huge relief,” he admits. “I was trying to regain my feelings when braking and turning in, and even in the first few laps, I felt it was going much better.” These positive feedbacks are crucial, not only for him but also for the technicians working to refine the bike’s development.
Notable improvements
It is clear that Ducati is making every effort to implement significant changes to its machine. Although the engine is frozen this season, peripheral adjustments have been made to enhance the riding experience. “Small details can always make a big difference,” Bagnaia emphasises. “In my case, it brings novelty and improvement.” One can imagine that these are small tweaks that make a decisive difference on the track.
Preparations for the future
Ducati has also been working on the height adjuster and has planned various aerodynamic developments. Bagnaia is preparing to test a new fairing on Thursday, the last day on track in Malaysia. “The fact that it rained this afternoon means we have more work to do on the last day,” he admits. “We need to focus in the morning to better understand on what basis we can continue in Thailand.” This foresight is crucial before heading to Buriram for the final tests and the first Grand Prix of the season, which begins on 21 February.
An encouraging balance
Despite the difficulties, Bagnaia has improved his time from yesterday by four tenths. With the eighth fastest time of the day, he is just over 0.4 seconds behind the leading Honda. This balance is encouraging and reflects significant progress. “The time we set was fast, especially with the race settings,” he notes with renewed confidence. “As soon as I started, I understood that the bike was working much better for me when braking and turning in.” This certainty could be the engine of a successful season.
On to a new era
As the tests continue, the competitive spirit intensifies for Pecco Bagnaia. “For the remaining three days, we just need to finish our work and focus on the race.” The optimism he radiates is infectious and raises hopes for a season where the Ducati could shine on the tracks. The road ahead is long, but with a sharp mind and an improved machine, Bagnaia seems ready to take on the challenge.
