A future full of adventures for Honda
Four years ago, Honda launched the very first TrailSport model with the 2022 Passport TrailSport, a decision that has proven to be a true masterstroke. If you thought it was just a marketing gimmick, think again: TrailSport versions now account for over 80% of Passport sales. And guess what? This is just the beginning, as Honda has big plans for its TrailSport range.
Enhanced suspension and improved ground clearance
During a recent roundtable in Tokyo, Kazuhiro Takizawa, the President and CEO of Honda America, shared the brand’s bold vision for the future of TrailSports. He stated: “We are not doing this just for show. What we want is for these vehicles to be truly capable off-road.” And with improvements to ground clearance and suspension, it can be said that Honda takes this mission very seriously.

The Passport TrailSport HRC concept showcased at SEMA is a tantalising glimpse of what lies ahead. With a suspension lift of 6 cm (2.36 inches), enhanced underbody protection, and reworked front/rear dampers, this SUV means business. Add to that optimised bumpers to improve approach and departure angles, and you have a true off-road warrior.
Other potential TrailSport models
When considering a logical expansion of the TrailSport sub-brand, it is hard to ignore other Honda crossovers like the subcompact HR-V and the mid-range Prologue EV. After all, if Subaru can make waves with its Crosstrek Wilderness, why not Honda? With its 23.6 cm (9.3 inches) of ground clearance and all-terrain tyres, a HR-V TrailSport would be the perfect addition to the lineup.
However, applying the same enhancements to the Prologue could pose some challenges, particularly regarding its range. That said, with the imminent arrival of the Toyota bZ Woodland, a Prologue TrailSport could well become a formidable competitor in the adventure electric SUV market.
On the road: An extraordinary experience
Let’s take a moment to imagine what it would be like to drive a TrailSport model on a rugged trail. With a chassis optimised to tackle all types of terrain and a suspension that seems to have been designed by a group of adrenaline-seeking engineers, every turn becomes an adventure. Add to that a responsive steering wheel, and you’ll feel like you’re piloting a dragon in full flight.
Life on board: Tech and comfort
Now that we’ve established these SUVs are beasts off-road, what about the interior? TrailSport models don’t just look tough; they also offer a pleasant interior experience. Imagine a cabin where comfort and technology meet harmoniously.
- State-of-the-art infotainment systems
- Weather-resistant materials
- Generous space for passengers
With features tailored for modern adventurers, these vehicles are perfect for those who want to conquer peaks while enjoying a certain level of luxury.
Market rivalry: Who can compete?
Speaking of competition, it’s interesting to note that Honda must contend with giants like Toyota with its 4Runner and Land Cruiser. The battle will be fierce! But with models like the Passport TrailSport, Honda has all the cards to surprise the competition.
Pricing and availability: What about the costs?
So, how much will you need to shell out for your own TrailSport? As always with Honda, prices remain within a reasonable range compared to other adventurous SUVs on the market. Of course, without precise figures at this time, we will simply have to wait for official announcements to know the exact pricing.
Verdict: A new chapter for Honda
In summary, Honda seems determined to transform its TrailSport range into a true armada of SUVs ready to tackle any terrain. With significant improvements in performance and a keen focus on interior comfort, these models could well redefine what it means to be an adventure SUV. Stay tuned: it promises to be explosive!
