The Stinger’s replacement, this much-anticipated model, seems to finally be taking shape. The first images of a concept promise a sharp-styled electric car that could well revolutionise design at Kia. We expect an electrifying GT, all finesse and aerodynamics.

A new lease of life for the brand

Since the discontinuation of the Stinger V6 in 2023, the suspense surrounding its successor has only grown. If the latest teasers are to be believed, Kia could soon unveil a concept heralding the famous “GT1”. With these mysterious silhouettes, it is clear that the Korean brand is preparing something special: a 100% electric grand tourer, with no combustion engine in sight.

For now, Kia remains vague about the exact identity of this model. Simply labelled “The Kia Concept”, this prototype suggests a silhouette that is much more aerodynamic than that of the EV4. With a dramatically sloped roofline, potentially ending in a hatch rather than a traditional boot, this concept clearly evokes the Stinger while announcing a decidedly different style, true to the boldness of Kia’s recent designs.

A bold design

It is still too early to say whether this model aligns with rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 or if it represents a completely new approach. However, the concept appears more imposing than the EV4, which measures 4,730 mm in its sedan version. The short bonnet suggests an entirely electric architecture, with little space for a combustion engine. That said, Hyundai is also planning electric models equipped with range-extending engines.

The prominent wings and striking headlights add a touch of character. A LED strip that bursts from the body and stretches towards the pillars housing the side cameras underscores this desire to stand out. The front side window suggests a vehicle larger than the EV4, fueling speculation about a future model bearing the EV8 badge.

A revealing concept

The absence of traditional central pillars is an additional hint that we have here a concept rather than a model ready for production. We sincerely hope that the vast glass roof will be retained in the commercial version. But it remains to be seen whether Kia is actually considering moving to production. For now, this hyper-aerodynamic electric coupe offers a fascinating glimpse into the brand’s future: “A new future is on the horizon. Our vision is soon to become reality.”

Regarding the technical foundations, this electric fastback could inherit components from the Ioniq 6. Alternatively, it could use the upcoming eM platform, designed to increase range by 50% compared to current models. Logically, we can expect rear-wheel drive for single-motor versions, while high-end variants could benefit from a dual-motor all-wheel drive system.

High expectations

These first teasers raise more questions than they answer. But one thing is for sure: we are relieved that this is not yet another crossover. As for the official presentation date, Kia remains discreet. However, we do know that the EV2 will be unveiled on January 9 at the Brussels Motor Show, but nothing indicates that this electric GT inspired by the Stinger will be presented at the same time.

If a production model comes to fruition, it is reasonable to think that it will not hit the market until 2027 at the earliest. A timing that could help Kia achieve its ambitious goal of selling 1.26 million electric vehicles each year by the end of the decade. Nevertheless, it is the more affordable models like the EV2, EV3, and EV4 that will do the heavy lifting. This teasing model here is likely aimed at a more premium segment, which will naturally reduce its sales volume.
