Global Debut of the Toyota GR GT
Toyota’s latest high-performance sports car, the GR GT, made its global debut last month at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The event featured a dynamic showcase that included not only the GR GT but also its racing counterpart, the GR GT3.
Event Highlights
Toyota’s presence at this year’s event was significant, with the GR GT positioned as the main attraction. In addition to a static display, Toyota showcased the capabilities of both the GR GT and the GT3 version on a makeshift track outside the main hall. This setup allowed for demonstrations of the car’s straight-line performance, while another area was transformed into a temporary skid pan for further testing.
Performance and Sound
The new Toyota GR GT boasts an impressive aesthetic appeal; however, the exhaust note left something to be desired, lacking the aggressive growl many enthusiasts expect. In contrast, the GT3 variant produced a more engaging sound profile.
Technical Specifications
The road-going version of the GR GT features a robust 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine complemented by a single electric motor, delivering a formidable output of 640 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for enhanced performance. The GT3 race car shares the same twin-turbo V8 engine but operates without the hybrid system, adhering strictly to GT3 specifications.
Further Engagement
For those interested in experiencing the unveiling and performances live, the entire event was streamed online, providing a closer look at Toyota’s latest engineering marvels.
