Fermín Aldeguer, the young prodigy of MotoGP, has been forced to leave the track due to an injury that could disrupt his ambitions for 2027. After starting the previous season brilliantly, this unexpected halt at the dawn of preseason testing could cost him dearly in a competitive environment where every second counts.
A Challenging Recovery
Recently allowed to leave the hospital, Fermín Aldeguer has begun his recovery at home. Although he has been able to resume some physical exercises, the Gresini Racing rider is facing a significant setback. His injury, which occurred two weeks ago at the Guadassuar circuit, has seriously compromised his plans for the upcoming season. During a training session on his Yamaha R6, developing nearly 140 hp, Aldeguer fell and fractured his left femoral diaphysis, an injury that could have gone unnoticed if it hadn’t been so serious.
A Delicate Operation
The day after his accident, Aldeguer underwent surgery in Barcelona at the Dexeus University Hospital, under the supervision of the director of the Bone Reconstruction and Lengthening Unit. This operation, lasting an impressive five hours, reflects the complexity of his situation. The Gresini Racing team quickly reassured fans by posting a photo of the rider from his hospital bed, accompanied by the promising caption: “The worst is behind us.” However, this promise leaves a taste of uncertainty.
A Tight Schedule
Pressure is mounting as the MotoGP preseason testing schedule approaches rapidly. The first tests will take place on February 3 in Sepang, followed by a second test in Buriram on February 21 and 22. And, to top it all off, the first Grand Prix of the season is scheduled from February 27 to March 1. With such a deadline, Aldeguer’s challenge is to achieve a quick yet complete recovery. Currently, information indicates that he may not be ready to return to competition until early April, which would mean he would also miss at least three Grand Prix races.
The Worst Time to Get Injured
For a rider like Aldeguer, who shone as the best rookie of the 2025 season, this injury comes at a particularly ill-timed moment. While recovery timelines are uncertain, the fact is that each passing day makes his return to competition more difficult. The rider market is unforgiving, and in the current context of MotoGP, where coveted spots are quickly filled, he risks seeing his hopes fade away.
Aspirations Undermined
When he started this season, Aldeguer had clear ambitions: to stand out and solidify his place among the best. After securing his first victory last year, he hoped to continue his momentum. But the reality is now quite different. On an older specification Ducati, he must convince the manufacturer to offer him a better ride for the future. But will he be able to do so after such a setback?
The Future in MotoGP: Between Hope and Uncertainty
Despite the obstacles, it is essential to keep in mind that Aldeguer is only 20 years old. His future in MotoGP remains unwritten, and this injury, while devastating at the moment, could become a chapter in his sporting story. The challenges he must overcome are immense, but the path to redemption is paved with opportunities. In the meantime, he will need to show resilience to come back stronger and prove that he belongs among the elite of MotoGP.
