Finally, the big day has arrived! The first stone of ProLogium’s Gigafactory has been laid near Dunkirk, marking the beginning of a large-scale project that could redefine the French industrial landscape. Imagine a factory where batteries for electric vehicles come to life, all in a region that is establishing itself as a key hub for electromobility in Europe.

A long-awaited inauguration

After several months of waiting, ProLogium, the Taiwanese group specialising in solid electrolyte batteries, has officially started construction of its Gigafactory. The inauguration ceremony took place at the site selected for this factory, an ambitious project that positions itself as one of the cornerstones of the energy transition in Europe.

The establishment of ProLogium, announced in 2023, represents a significant advancement for the electric battery industry in France. The group has chosen the Hauts-de-France region to build its first European Gigafactory, a colossal multi-billion investment expected to create several thousand direct and indirect jobs.

A project takes shape

The inauguration of the construction site is not just a symbolic event. It marks the transition to an operational phase, following the acquisition of the necessary permits and the completion of technical studies. Construction work will now accelerate, with an ambitious schedule that foresees a gradual commissioning of the site in the second half of this decade. Production from this factory will primarily target European car manufacturers committed to electrifying their models.

A project at the heart of industrial sovereignty

This future factory is part of a French and European strategy aimed at reshoring value chains related to batteries, a crucial issue for industrial sovereignty. ProLogium thus joins other similar initiatives in the north and contributes to the emergence of a genuine industrial centre for electromobility.

The Taiwanese group is focusing on solid-state battery technology, praised for its superior energy density and increased safety compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. Furthermore, the site is expected to integrate ambitious environmental goals, including reducing industrial emissions and managing energy consumption.

A project welcomed by authorities

Public authorities, both local and national, have welcomed this project as a structural vector for the area. It promises not only to enhance the industrial attractiveness of the region but also to support the automotive sector’s transition to more sustainable solutions. With the official start of construction, we are entering a crucial phase before the production of this future Gigafactory begins, which could elevate the French automotive industry to the next level.

In summary, the inauguration of ProLogium’s construction site in Dunkirk is not just a simple ceremony. It marks the beginning of a new era for the battery industry in France and a crucial step towards more sustainable electromobility.
