BMW Group’s CO2 Emission Performance
Munich. The BMW Group has reported a notable decrease in the CO2 emissions of its vehicle fleet sold within the European Union (EU27+2: EU, Norway, Iceland) for the financial year 2025. Preliminary internal calculations indicate that the emissions figure stands at 90.0 grams per kilometre according to WLTP, a reduction from 99.5 grams per kilometre in 2024. This marks an approximate decrease of 9.5% compared to the previous year.

Exceeding EU Targets
The EU’s fleet target limit for the BMW Group was set at 92.9 grams in 2025, meaning the company has surpassed this target by 2.9 grams.
Commitment to Technology Neutrality
Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, commented, “We once again overfulfilled Europe’s ambitious CO2 targets in 2025 – without relying on flexibility mechanisms or pooling. This underlines that our technology-neutral approach and systematic CO2 reduction are not contradictory but go hand in hand. The decisive factor is the efficiency of all the drive technologies we offer our customers.”
Electrification Driving Emission Reductions
The ongoing electrification strategy has been pivotal in achieving these reduced emissions. In 2025, the BMW Group delivered over 316,000 electrified vehicles to customers across the EU27+2, resulting in electrified vehicles accounting for 41.1% of total sales within the region.
Out of these, more than 202,000 were fully electric vehicles, representing approximately 26.3% of the total sales volume.
Future Developments
This progress sets a strong foundation for the upcoming BMW iX3, which is the first production model of the Neue Klasse and is expected to enhance the BMW Group’s product range from 2026.
Long-term Climate Goals
The reduction in fleet-wide emissions aligns with the BMW Group’s long-term climate objectives, which include a comprehensive decarbonisation strategy across the entire lifecycle of its vehicles, aiming for “net zero” emissions by 2050. This commitment reflects adherence to the Paris Climate Agreement, with a target to cut CO2e emissions by at least 60 million tonnes compared to 2019 levels by 2035.
Joachim Post, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for Development, stated, “Every tonne of CO2 we can avoid counts. That is why we have adopted a holistic development approach to decarbonisation that goes far beyond fleet emissions. We are reducing CO2 across the entire lifecycle of our vehicles – from the supply chain to production and throughout their operation.”
