BMW is gearing up for Summer 2026 with a series of subtle yet targeted updates across its range. Cosmetic tweaks, technological enhancements, and the arrival of a new powertrain for the iX3 promise to freshen up the Bavarian manufacturer’s offering.
Black Package Adds Sporty Edge
Summer 2026 will see the introduction of a new ‘Black Package’ designed to inject more visual dynamism into M Performance models of the BMW 3 Series, 4 Series Gran Coupé, and i4 Gran Coupé. This option, available only with the M Sport Pro package which includes red M brake callipers, adds a more aggressive aesthetic. Inside, sporty carbon fibre trim details, such as the inserts on the M leather steering wheel, reinforce the exclusive character. On the exterior, specific black badging and 19-inch M alloy wheels in Jet Black finish complete the transformation. The M340i xDrive Saloon and Touring models will receive 19-inch M alloy wheels in double-spoke style 995 M Jet Black with mixed-size tyres. For the M440i xDrive Gran Coupé and i4 M60 xDrive Gran Coupé, an additional model badge in the honeycomb BMW kidney grille, also in black, completes the look. These specific M alloy wheels will also be offered as a separate option for all BMW 4 Series Coupé, Convertible, and Gran Coupé models, with the possibility of opting for sports tyres.

Intelligent Personal Assistant Gains French Fluency
Digitalisation continues its advance at BMW with the upcoming integration of the AI-powered Intelligent Personal Assistant. Designed to offer more natural and intuitive voice interaction, this system now understands everyday language and conversational context. Thanks to Amazon’s Alexa technology, it aims to be a true intelligent co-pilot for daily life. The French-language version will debut on the new BMW iX3 from April 2026 production, and will be rolled out via a software update at the end of May 2026 for vehicles produced before that date. Other models equipped with BMW Operating System 9 and BMW Operating System X will benefit from this advancement from the second half of 2026, with availability extended to other markets.
BMW iX3: New Entry-Level Version and Enhancements
The iX3 will be available from Summer 2026 with a second powertrain option, the new BMW iX3 40. This entry-level model will adopt the sixth-generation eDrive technology, specifically developed for the Neue Klasse platform. The 800-volt architecture will allow for the integration of a permanently excited synchronous electric motor (EESM) on the rear axle. Developing 235 kW (320 hp) and 500 Nm of torque, it will drive the rear wheels. The 0-62mph sprint will be completed in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 124mph. The battery will offer a usable capacity of 82.6 kWh, enabling rapid charging up to 300 kW and a maximum WLTP range of 396 miles. Furthermore, the iX3 will expand its customisation palette with nine new BMW Individual paint finishes, including Voodoo Blue and Urban Green. New 21-inch M aerodynamic alloy wheels (style 1051 M Jet Black) and a two-tone Agave contemporary interior design will also be available. The heated rear seats option, now offered in conjunction with the Innovation package, will add further comfort.
BMW M Ignite: Technology Promising Efficiency and Compliance
All BMW M inline six-cylinder engines will incorporate the innovative BMW M Ignite technology from Summer 2026. This system, patented by BMW and derived from motorsport, uses a pre-combustion chamber for petrol engines. Its main advantage lies in a significant reduction in fuel consumption, particularly under high load conditions. This technology will also play a key role in meeting future Euro 7 emissions standards. The BMW M3 and M4 will be equipped with this new feature from July 2026, followed by the M2 in August. Engine performance and displacement will remain unchanged.
Practical Details for Everyday Use
For quick assistance in the event of a puncture, BMW 2 Series Coupé, 4 Series Coupé, and 4 Series Convertible models will come standard with the Plus Tyre Repair Kit (Seal & Drive Tire Kit) from Summer 2026. The car keys for BMW X3 models equipped with the M Sport or M Sport Plus packages will now feature the characteristic M stripes. Finally, from July 2026, the BMW Operating System X will allow the creation of personalised routines. The Intelligent Personal Assistant will analyse usage habits to suggest automations that simplify recurring tasks, or allow the user to define their own scenarios.
